MPs have come under attack for claiming £200,000 of taxpayers' money to cover the cost of their energy bills.
Some 340 MPs, including ministers, have used the parliamentary expenses system to recoup the cost of heating their second homes, according to the Sunday Mirror.
Bills costing more than £1,000 were submitted by 41 MPs while 78 made claims for £500 in the 12 months up to March this year, its analysis found.
The claims do not break any parliamentary rules but come at a time of heightened tensions over the spiralling cost of gas and electricity.
Conservative MP Nadhim Zahawi, a founder of market research firm YouGov, claimed the most with a bill totalling £5,822.27 to cover electricity and heating oil for his estate in Warwickshire.
Alan Duncan, the international development minister, claimed £2,750 for electricity bills

　

and £1,250 in heating oil for his home in Rutland, Leicestershire, while universities minister David Willetts claimed £2,596.

Labour MP John Mann, who did not claim for his energy bills, told the Sunday Mirror: "Perhaps the MPs who have submitted the claims should start wearing thicker jumpers.

"There will be people including pensioners who can't afford to heat their homes who will be furious to find out that MPs who can afford to pay them are putting in such high claims.

"Government ministers are attacking Ed Miliband for proposing to freeze prices but they don't have to worry about the cost because they can put the claims in."

An analysis by energy industry regulator Ofgem earlier this week showed that, while the increases announced so far this autumn by four of the big six firms have averaged 9.1%, wholesale prices have risen by 1.7% – adding just £10 to the average household bill of £600.

Dave Prentis, general secretary of Unison, told the newspaper: "It's disgraceful that well-paid MPs should claim expenses for heating costs

　

at the same time that thousands of families are struggling to pay to turn the oven on to cook dinner for their families.

"These are the same hypocritical MPs who have failed to get a grip on soaring fuel and energy costs, rising food bills and pay freezes."

 This coupled with the expense's claim's that cause a right Hulla balloo a year or so ago which resulted in the police looking into them for possible fraudulent claim's, should an independent  structure  be set up to look into all future expense claim's which would only be paid if first justified that the claim was valid  and be open for the General public to view, as for those MP's who are in them self's Millionaires in their own right should they be able to claim these expenses  in the first place, from the public purse. 

Should we be surprised ? I think not, they're the lowest of the low and this confirms it even further

It's criminal!

Everyone in the U.K should send their fuel bills to Parliament with a note attached "you pay their bills so you can pay mine!"

Its disgusting, they should all be made to pay back every penny for the last 10 years. Something is awfully wrong in England, there should be a set wage for mp's, finished. Its becoming all of them aer being like greedy scumbags (compliment) for them, so many poor people, and Things are getting worse, its time to start saying to these MP's get out and survive on the dole for 5 years

 Its a wonder that the Government has not slapped a visitors tax on people coming here for a visit at airports, Dock's, Channel Tunnel etc, say £2.00p Tax per person and £1.00p invisible Tax to magically  end up in our  leader's bank account's (No name's supplied ) well the Spanish did slap a star rating kind of Tax for Holidaying people on arrival at their Hotels didn't they i.e. so much for each star rating of the Hotel    just think of all that extra booty going into the coffers,they would soon fill up and im sure our M.P.s would soon take care of any over flow because they are dam good at that. 

The government will be able to make more savings after the winter with people - mainly old - claiming pensions - freezing to death.


...and cutting social services funding .....even more savings - with people dying without care.


.....and a reduction in child benefit with children dying because "lessons aren't learned" .....


plus even more savings - getting the REAL unemployed to do work for free - thus saving on wages....

 Well  Mrs P one thing then we can say for our Government  then is that they are so very inventive culling the ones that they think are of no use any more in Society grabbing any cash that they have left behind to bung in their coffers and whip into shape the unemployed into a free work force that will greatly assist those Right Honourable  shower  who have vested interests in this program and no doubt  have shares or out and out Business interests profiting from free labour any free or subsidised labour they can get their mits on  sounds feasible enough make a little work for idle hands and cream of a few quid at the same time.

and the lords get £300 each time they show their greedy mugs in parliment, something is awfully wrong somewhere

The House of Commons.....the place to be for free booze and a long undisturbed sleep in the back benches and be paid 300 pounds for it....nice job!

Wonderful!! There's going to be more cuts! Apparently the deficit is coming down but it's not even halfway there....a new year and another tough one seemingly  

I predict that if this lot get in again:


the old aged pension will be means tested.


public service "menial" (NOT being nasty) jobs will be done by the unemployed - not for a wage - for their JSA.

It's being said that there's going to be a £25bn cutbacks so no doubt welfare will be hit again, but could there be some civil service redundancies on the horizon too?

If your' meaning those in HIGH wage brackets - no doubt the redundancy will be Enormous
 

Last year it was the armed forces, if they freeze wages again from nhs and across the board to teachers....possible strikes again.

However they do the cuts, there's going to be knock on effects again.

 its a wonder Cameron and Co, have not had the public send them a message as strong as Maggie did when she started chipping away    well I bet his lilly whites that form his Government are getting more than a little nervous as the next election day draws near, probley all milking away the system for as much as they can get away with while they still got cushy jobs, It would make good reading their expense  allowance claims  that they will all be submitting leading up to the next election, I bet there will be more than afew claims that would make ones eye brow twitch abit  that's for sure

 Yes well you see Pandora we all know that all the main partys and even those not called main party they are all infested with lame brains all with big plans for mucking up the system even further the new kid on the block they all seem to be shying away from at the moment is UKIP   We could say bugger it and surrender to Brussels and let the European Parliament run the show but then we would most likely all be speaking French or German within a few decades and be no better of than we are now,well lets go daft and surrender to Scotland and let them run the Country    well why not I say seeing as most of our lot seem to come from up there any way    I think im going to make a paper aeroplane out of my Ballot slip and launch it into the voteing booth and were the point at the front of that paper aeroplane lands and points to some one on the Ballot paper i'll pick him or her or I could do blind mans buff method of picking one and how will you pick yours  

I dont think Torie or Libral will get in I think UKIP will do a lot of damage to the Tories, and then they will want their perks. Labour i think will still be blowing in the wind, maybe coalition between Labour and UKIP or UKIP and Liberal, just a thought

Labour are saying that they are supporting the benefit welfare reform so it seems the attitude is to keep targetting the sick and vunerable.

It also looks like benefits will be capped this year.

For those of us who have the genuine need of financial disability support, they are making us wait so long and also suffering with constant worry of how we're going to pay our bills, being cold and not able to eat good nourishing meals because we can't afford to put the heating on or to do a weekly food shop.

It's soul destroying.

It doesn't matter to them that you were a person who had worked most of your life, when you become unable to work because you are sick or disabled, you stop being a person and become a statistic that is a burden to the economy.

When you are independent and working, you have self respect, when you become disabled you lose that self respect, your self esteem and confidence diminishes, you no longer have control over your life or control over how you want to live your life to your best ability.

Every day your strength that you have left....weakens, and the thought of suicide 
increases.

Voting?? It's now a game of Russian Roulette.

What political party is going to help the vunerable to be able to sleep with their minds at rest? 

Which one will give us some quality of life back?

None, because for all of them, it's better for them that we didn't exist.

I can almost see a Nazi flag - to be disabled/sick seems now to be a crime - we are no longer perfect specimens of men/women due to illness/disability -

I doubt any British government would have us "put to sleep" - but I can well imagine us having to sell all we have - to put off the time when we starve to death or succumb to the cold.


Be in no doubt - these are todays facts.

Although - being totally fair - MANY people in work - face the same outlook.
