| If your good at being good, in your own way. And if your good at being yourself, in your own way. Be true to yourself, and be content in the knowledge that. You are Unique!

| I cannot behold you without emotion; my heart still answers to your voice. my blood in my veins to your footsteps. |

| This Be The Verse.
They F*** you up. Your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you with the faults they had and add some extra, just for you.
But they were F***ed up in their turn By fools in old-style hats and coats Who half the time were soppy-stern And half at one another's throats.
Man hands on misery to man. It deepens like a coastal shelf. Get out as early as you can. And don't have any kids yourself.
By Philip Larkin. |

| A true to life verse there Timeout and some children do grow up and repeat the same mistakes, faults and abuse of their parents, but other children seem to have an inner strength and are determined not to grow up and be like their parents and suceed, they also become good parents that love, protect and do everything to give their child a happy childhood as much as possible. In saying that, my Great Grandfather would use the belt on his 6 children, he used the fear of being lashed with the belt to keep his children under control, plus quoteing the Bible, all 6 grew up devoted to the Catholic religion and were sucessful in their careers but never laid their hands on their own children to discpline them...they were the lucky ones to have that inner strength They knew that children are the most precious gift that life can give to anyone. | |

| I couldn't agree with you more Ladygenie. Having that strength to recognise and remember how you felt when you were being punished is paramount in breaking the chain. Not everyone has that strength though, thats the sad bit.
Most people, when they have children, want to do a better job than their own parents. But parenting, as the famous poem [above] by Larkin mordantly points out, is not a Science where you can point proudly to progress. Larkin was quite consistent in his horror of family life, due to his own difficult childhood. He died single and childless in 1985. I'm a Fan of his work. |

| That is such a sad shame to think that his own unhappy childhood made him not to want children or too fearful to have children incase he repeated the same behaviour as his own parents, and a man of deep feeling too that he expresses in his poetry. Do you write poetry honey? If you do please feel free to post some, we'll look forward to reading them | |

| you grasped his feelings pretty quick there, [with Respect] I'm impressed. His decision not to have family of his own for fear of repeating his parents mistakes is pretty admirable when you think about it. Also indicating that he cared more about the welfare of children than he ever gave himself credit for. No I dont write poetry, just try to read and try and understand it. Thank you though. |
