| In Reading i've worked with many Irish nurses and they are anything but thick. In-fact they have been some of the best nurses i've worked with. They also have all have the best sense of humor ever. I don't know where the thick stereotype came from, but then again the welsh are labeled as sheep shaggers... the mind boggles | |

| I think it comes from when the Irish began to settle here, they mainly worked as labourers in construction. My family came here just before ww2, 3 of my uncles enlisted, 2 of my aunts worked in an ammunitions factory, their children had good education, 3 became civil servants, 3 had their own thriving businesses, 1 was a racing horse trainer...all were hard workers and we were brought up with the words "if you want something you have to earn it" I'm proud to have an Irish family and though my aunts and uncles have all gone now, I'm still proud of them | |

| its a good job the irish do have a sense of humour - I believe they were the workers who made countries like America - after having to leave ireland or starve in the 1840's and were brought in in previous centuries to break strikes in ie mining - in the north - thick NO. Hardworkers YES. | |
